Previous Event Highlights
Enlace Academy parent, Alma Becerril, received a $5,000 grant from The MindTrust, Go Farther Literacy Fund, to implement a book exchange program called “Leyendo Juntos,” which will promote a sense of pride for reading bilingual literature while increasing literacy and comprehension gains in K-8 students who are English Language Learners, have an IEP, or are reading below grade level.
Enlace Academy is incredibly proud of Ms. Becerril for her passion and appreciates the support and investment from The MindTrust.
Enlace Academy is so grateful for all of the staff, families, friends, businesses, and partners that contributed to this year's Holiday Assistance Program! Through the overwhelming support and generosity of the Enlace community, the school was able to sponsor 100% of the over 200 students that benefited from this year's program.
Enlace families received gifts, clothing, food, and other items that made this holiday season shine brighter. Families were incredibly grateful for the assistance and wish all those that contributed a happy holiday!
The Enlace Academy 4th grade team welcomed families and students for an engaging literacy night. The literacy night highlighted the new novel the students will begin reading in December, When Stars are Scattered. The event featured a guest speaker who focused on the importance that determination, family, and community played in his own educational journey as he navigated the immigration process.
Parents had the opportunity to learn about the literacy skills their students are practicing, what skills they need to build in order to close learning gaps, and how to easily access and participate in skill-building at home.
Parents and students engaged in reflection and dialogue about their own journey in education, created make & take phonics activities to use at home, and built community among other families.
Indiana Latino Institute’s mission is to improve health and advance education for the Indiana Latino community through statewide advocacy, research, and culturally responsive programs. ILI’s Annual Hispanic Heritage Luncheon is an opportunity to fundraise for their programs and services but most importantly, scholarships for LatinX students in the state of Indiana. Today, Enlace supported this amazing event as Ms. Campos was a nominee for the Elevated Latinos Under 40 award. Pictured are some of the LatinX staff members at Enlace that proudly serve our Enlace community and represent their LatinX heritage. There are so many LatinX leaders in the community and today we celebrate and pay tribute to those who have, are, and will continue to make an impact on our LatinX communities here in Indiana!
What a pleasure it was to celebrate Hispanic/LatinX Heritage Month with students, staff, and families at Nuestra Luz hosted by Indiana Latino Institute! The inaugural event included music, dance performances, and a light and video projection at Monument Circle celebrating the Latino community. A big thank you to the Indiana Latino Institute for including Enlace Academy in the beautiful evening and to all those that were able to attend.
