Supporting Our Students

With roughly two-thirds of our students being English Language Learners, we support language development through Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol or SIOP, “a research based, instructional framework that teachers can use when planning, teaching, and reflecting upon their lessons. SIOP encourages teachers to design and deliver student-centered lessons that maximize student opportunities to interact with the language, the content, and their peers in meaningful ways.”

Based on the assessment data collected, students participate in a success block for intervention or enrichment four times per week. During this block, students spend time in small-group instruction and on adaptive online programs that meet their specific needs.

• Enlace Academy leverages the MTSS (multi-tiered system of supports) model as its framework to provide targeted support to struggling students. 
• MTSS is designed to help schools identify struggling students early and intervene quickly. It focuses on the “whole child.” That means it supports academic growth, but many other areas, too. These include behavior, social and emotional needs, and absenteeism (not attending school). 
• The goal of MTSS is to intervene early so students can catch up with their peers

Enlace Academy employs a school-based Special Education Coordinator, full-time Special Education teachers, and paraprofessionals who work with students and families to monitor IEPs and to ensure students receive the services they need to be successful. 

• Enlace Academy believes the social emotional well-being of students is equally as important as their academic success and focuses on a number of different initiatives to ensure students have the resources and skills they need to be socially and emotionally healthy.
  • Enlace Academy’s culture team focuses on restorative practices  
  • Enlace Academy offers in house counselors and therapists for students in need of these services.
  • Character education and social-emotional learning lessons occur during Community Meeting and advisory/morning meeting.
